Shira Barkan-Tal

Shira is one of our experienced therapists here at Bridges Therapy Centre, offering psychotherapy to children with a range of complex issues and developmental difficulties. As well as individual child therapy, she also offers parent child psychotherapy, as well as parental guidance to families with young children.

In the process of registering with the HCPC as a psychologist in the UK, Shira also has extensive experience of working as a developmental psychologist in Israel, in a range of different settings. Within these fields, she has helped young children with a range of emotional difficulties in early childhood, including anxiety disorders, developmental delays, and autism spectrum disorder.

Qualifications and Training

Shira studied at The Academic College of Tel Aviv-Yaffo in Israel, receiving an MA in Psychology. Following this, she also studied for a PGDip in Child-Parent Psychotherapy, from The School of Parent-Child Combined Psychotherapy. Currently, Shira is registered in the UK as a psychotherapist with the BACP, and is in the process of being registered as a psychologist with the HCPC.

Experience

Whilst in Israel, Shira worked as a psychologist within an early childhood centre, carrying out therapy for children ages 0-9 with emotional difficulties, including those diagnosed with ASD (autism spectrum disorder). Working within a multidisciplinary team, she also has experience working in a child development centre as a psychologist, assessing young children for a variety of developmental delays, communication disorders and emotional difficulties, and providing therapy for them and their families.

The services that she offers includes individual therapy for children, parent-child psychotherapy (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy), and parental guidance.

Specialisms

Shira has always been interested in parent child relationships, working through conflicts and facilitating better relationships. She also enjoys working with toddlers and infants, a critical time when parent child relationships evolve, emerge and define towards the future.
