Developed by Paul Gilbert, Compassion Focussed Therapy (CFT) combines elements of evolutionary, social, and developmental psychology with Buddhist philosophy and neuroscience. Evidence-based, Compassion Focussed Therapy employs all these elements to promote mental wellbeing by encouraging individuals to be more compassionate towards themselves and others. Bridges Therapy Centre offer this therapy in our Hendon, Muswell Hill, Canary Wharf and Central London locations.
By combining evolutionary, social, and developmental psychology, Buddhist philosophy and neuroscience, CFT helps individuals develop a deeper sense of self-compassion and understanding. This can be particularly beneficial for those struggling with:
- Shame and self-criticism
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Low self-esteem
- Relationship difficulties
The Power of Self Compassion
CFT teaches us that our brains are naturally wired to respond to stress with self-protective mechanisms. However, these mechanisms can sometimes become overwhelming and lead to negative self-talk or self-judgment. Through CFT, you can learn to recognize these patterns and develop healthier coping strategies. By fostering self-compassion, CFT empowers you to navigate challenges with greater kindness and understanding towards yourself.
