Sharon Garner

Sharon Garner is an experienced child, adolescent and young adult psychotherapist and counsellor at Bridges Therapy Centre, specialising in therapeutic support for children, adolescents, and young adults. With a strong foundation in both psychodynamic and systemic approaches, Sharon brings a rich and nuanced understanding of the emotional and relational worlds of the young people she works with.

Sharon offers a warm, nurturing, and reflective therapeutic space where children, teenagers, and young adults can feel safe to explore their feelings, make sense of their experiences, and build emotional resilience. She works collaboratively, with sensitivity and respect, tailoring her approach to the unique needs of each client.

Qualifications & Training

Sharon completed her MSc in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy for Children and Adolescents at Birkbeck, University of London. Alongside her psychodynamic training, she is also a systemic clinician, having trained at the Institute of Family Therapy and worked for several years as a child and family social worker across various services.

Experience & Background

Sharon has extensive experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and families across clinical, community, and educational settings.

In addition to her role at Bridges Therapy Centre, Sharon works as a child and young person therapist at a children’s wellness centre. She has also contributed to the charity sector and played a key role in developing a mental health provision for young adults across two GP practices; experience that has deepened her understanding of the challenges faced by young people in both community and clinical settings.

Specialisms

Sharon supports a wide range of emotional and psychological difficulties affecting children, teens, and young adults, including anxiety, low mood, depression, neurodiversity, emotional and behavioural dysregulation, grief and loss, interpersonal and family relationship issues, parental separation, difficult earlier experiences, developmental trauma, and gender transition.

She is deeply committed to providing therapy that is empathetic, attuned, and flexible, meeting each young person where they are and helping them move toward greater stability and self-understanding.

Therapeutic Approach

Sharon believes strongly in the importance of creating a secure, trusting space where young people feel genuinely heard and understood. Her approach is rooted in empathy, patience, and respect, recognising that every client’s story is unique and deserves to be met with care.

Drawing on her psychodynamic training, Sharon supports clients in exploring the emotional experiences that sit beneath behaviours and symptoms. Her systemic background allows her to consider the role of family life, relationships, and wider contexts in shaping a young person’s emotional world.

Her aim is to help clients develop deeper self-awareness, greater emotional resilience, and a stronger sense of confidence in navigating life’s challenges.
